Four score and seven
years ago our fathers brought forth on this
continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and
dedicated to the proposition that all men are
created equal.

Gettysburg Address"

On November 19, 1863, President Lincoln traveled
to a battlefield which was to be dedicated as a
national cemetery. On that field where the people
had gathered to hear their President, the Battle
of Gettysburg had occurred, one that had lasted
three days, July 1 to July 3, 1863; the field was
located near a small Pennsylvanian town,
Gettysburg. What had begun there on July the 1st,
1863, was but a skirmish between the two opposing
side; it ended up, however, involving 160,000 men.
The Battle of Gettysburg effectively put an end to
any question as to which side was going to win the
American Civil War. The presidential address, much
to everyone's surprise, was a very short one,
lasting not much more than two minutes.
