| Proverbs, The,
also called THE BOOK OF PROVERBS, an Old Testament book of "wisdom"
writing found in the third section of the Jewish canon, known as the Ketuvim, or
Writings. The book's superscription, "The proverbs of Solomon. . . ,"
is not to say that it as a whole or even individual proverbs should be credited
to King Solomon, for scholarly examination discloses that it contains seven
collections of wisdom materials (mostly short sayings) from a wide variety of
periods, all after Solomon's time. |
잠언, The Book of Proverbs라고도
함, [구약성서]에서 케투빔(성문서)이라고 불리는
유대교 경전의 3번째 부분에 실려 있는
'지혜'에 관한
작품이다.
이 책의 표제는 '솔로몬의 잠언'이지만,
이 책 전체뿐만
아니라 개별 부분조차도 솔로몬이 쓴 것이 아니다.
학자들의 연구 결과에 따르면 이 책은 솔로몬 시대 이후,
매우 오랜 기간에 걸쳐 형성된 7개의 지혜 자료집(대부분
짧은 격언들)을 담고 있다. |

The earliest collection (25:1-29:27), titled
"proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied,"
came into being about 700 BC; the latest (1:1-9:18) dates from the 4th century
BC. There also is an untitled acrostic poem about the virtuous wife (31:10-31).

가장 초기의 모음집(25 : 1~29 :
27)은 '유다 왕 히즈키야가 사람들을 시켜 베낀 솔로몬의
잠언'이라는 제목이 붙은 것으로 보아
BC 700년경에 형성된
듯하며,
가장 후대의 것(1 : 1~9 : 18)은 BC 4세기경의 것으로
보여진다.
또한 악한 아내에 관한 부분(31 : 10~31)은 원래
제목이 없고 각 행의 첫 글자를 모으면 말이 되는 시(詩)이다.

| The third collection (22:17-24:22) has attracted
much attention because of its close affinity to the Egyptian "Wisdom of
Amenemope," variously dated between the 10th and 6th centuries BC. This
likeness suggests that Israel's wisdom movement, whatever its origins, was
influenced by the wisdom literature of other ancient Middle Eastern cultures. |
3번째 모음집(22 : 17~24 : 22)은
BC 10세기에서 BC 6세기 사이에
작성된 것으로 추정되는 이집트와 [아메네모페의 지혜
Wisdom of Amenemope]
와 매우 유사하기 때문에 많은 관심을
끌었다.
이 유사성은 그 근원이 무엇이었든지간에
이스라엘의 지혜운동이 다른 고대 중동의 지혜문학에서
영향받았음을 보여준다. |
