Job.21

[1] Then Job answered:
[2] "Listen carefully to my words,
and let this be your consolation.
[3] Bear with me, and I will speak,
and after I have spoken, mock on.
[4] As for me, is my complaint against man?
Why should I not be impatient?
[5] Look at me, and be appalled,
and lay your hand upon your mouth.
[6] When I think of it I am dismayed,
and shuddering seizes my flesh.
[7] Why do the wicked live,
reach old age, and grow mighty in power?
[8] Their children are established in their presence,
and their offspring before their eyes.
[9] Their houses are safe from fear,
and no rod of God is upon them.
[10] Their bull breeds without fail;
their cow calves, and does not cast her calf.
[11] They send forth their little ones like a flock,
and their children dance.
[12] They sing to the tambourine and the lyre,
and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.
[13] They spend their days in prosperity,
and in peace they go down to Sheol.
[14] They say to God, `Depart from us!
We do not desire the knowledge of thy ways.
[15] What is the Almighty, that we should serve him?
And what profit do we get if we pray to him?'
[16] Behold, is not their prosperity in their hand?
The counsel of the wicked is far from me.
[17] "How often is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out?
That their calamity comes upon them?
That God distributes pains in his anger?
[18] That they are like straw before the wind,
and like chaff that the storm carries away?
[19] You say, `God stores up their iniquity for their sons.'
Let him recompense it to themselves, that they may know it.
[20] Let their own eyes see their destruction,
and let them drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
[21] For what do they care for their houses after them,
when the number of their months is cut off?
[22] Will any teach God knowledge,
seeing that he judges those that are on high?
[23] One dies in full prosperity,
being wholly at ease and secure,
[24] his body full of fat
and the marrow of his bones moist.
[25] Another dies in bitterness of soul,
never having tasted of good.
[26] They lie down alike in the dust,
and the worms cover them.
[27] "Behold, I know your thoughts,
and your schemes to wrong me.
[28] For you say, `Where is the house of the prince?
Where is the tent in which the wicked dwelt?'
[29] Have you not asked those who travel the roads,
and do you not accept their testimony
[30] that the wicked man is spared in the day of calamity,
that he is rescued in the day of wrath?
[31] Who declares his way to his face,
and who requites him for what he has done?
[32] When he is borne to the grave,
watch is kept over his tomb.
[33] The clods of the valley are sweet to him;
all men follow after him,
and those who go before him are innumerable.
[34] How then will you comfort me with empty nothings?
There is nothing left of your answers but falsehood."

　

21 장

[1] 욥이 대답하여 가로되
[2] 너희는 내 말을 자세히 들으라 이것이 너희의 위로가 될 것이니 라
[3] 나를 용납하여 말하게 하라 내가 말한 후에 또 조롱할지니라
[4] 나의 원망이 사람을 향하여 하는 것이냐 내가 어찌 초급하지 아니하겠느냐
[5] 너희는 나를 보아라 놀라라 손으로 입을 가리우라
[6] 내가 추억하기만 하여도 답답하고 두려움이 내 몸을 잡는구나
[7] 어찌하여 악인이 살고 수를 누리고 세력이 강하냐
[8] 씨가 그들의 앞에서 그들과 함께 굳게 서고 자손이 그들의 목전 에서 그러하구나
[9] 그 집이 평안하여 두려움이 없고 하나님의 매가 그 위에 임하지 아니하며
[10] 그 수소는 영락없이 새끼를 배게 하고 그 암소는 새끼를 낳고 낙태하지 않는구나
[11] 그들은 아이들을 내어보냄이 양 떼 같고 그 자녀들은 춤추는구나
[12] 그들이 소고와 수금으로 노래하고 피리 불어 즐기며
[13] 그날을 형통하게 지내다가 경각간에 음부에 내려가느니라
[14] 그러할지라도 그들은 하나님께 말하기를 우리를 떠나소서 우리가 주의 도리 알기를 즐겨하지 아니하나이다
[15] 전능자가 누구기에 우리가 섬기며 우리가 그에게 기도한들 무슨 이익을 얻으랴 하는구나
[16] 그들의 복록이 그들의 손으로 말미암은 것이 아니니라 악인의 계획은 나와 판이하니라
[17] 악인의 등불이 꺼짐이나 재앙이 그들에게 임함이나 하나님이 진노하사 그들을 곤고케 하심이나
[18] 그들이 바람 앞에 검불 같이,폭풍에 불려가는 겨같이 되는 일이 몇번이나 있었느냐
[19] 하나님이 그의 죄악을 쌓아 두셨다가 그 자손에게 갚으신다 하거니와 그 몸에 갚으셔서 그로 깨닫게 하셔야 할 것이라
[20] 자기의 멸망을 자기의 눈으로 보게 하시며 전능자의 진노를 마시게 하셔야 할 것이니라
[21] 그의 달 수가 진하면 자기 집에 대하여 무슨 관계가 있겠느냐
[22] 그러나 하나님은 높은 자들을 심판하시나니 누가 능히 하나님께 지식을 가르치겠느냐
[23] 어떤 사람은 죽도록 기운이 충실하여 평강하며 안일하고
[24] 그 그릇에는 젖이 가득하며 그 골수는 윤택하였고
[25] 어떤 사람은 죽도록 마음에 고통하고 복을 맛보지 못하였어도
[26] 이 둘이 일반으로 흙 속에 눕고 그 위에 구더기가 덮이는구나
[27] 내가 너희의 생각을 알고 너희가 나를 해하려는 궤휼도 아노라
[28] 너희의 말이 왕후의 집이 어디 있으며 악인의 거하던 장막이 어디 있느뇨 하는구나
[29] 너희가 길 가는 사람들에게 묻지 아니하였느냐 그들의 증거를 알지 못하느냐
[30] 악인은 남기워서 멸망의 날을 기다리움이 되고 멸망의 날을 맞으러 끌려 나감이 된다 하느니라
[31] 누가 능히 그의 행위를 면박하며 누가 능히 그의 소위를 보응하랴마는
[32] 그를 무덤으로 메어 가고 사람이 그 무덤을 지키리라
[33] 그는 골짜기의 흙덩이를 달게 여기고 그 앞선 자가 무수함 같이 모든 사람이 그 뒤를 좇으리라
[34] 이러한즉 너희의 위로가 헛되지 아니하냐 너희의 대답은 거짓 뿐이니라

　

Job.22

[1] Then Eli'phaz the Te'manite answered:
[2] "Can a man be profitable to God?
Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
[3] Is it any pleasure to the Almighty if you are righteous,
or is it gain to him if you make your ways blameless?
[4] Is it for your fear of him that he reproves you,
and enters into judgment with you?
[5] Is not your wickedness great?
There is no end to your iniquities.
[6] For you have exacted pledges of your brothers for nothing,
and stripped the naked of their clothing.
[7] You have given no water to the weary to drink,
and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
[8] The man with power possessed the land,
and the favored man dwelt in it.
[9] You have sent widows away empty,
and the arms of the fatherless were crushed.
[10] Therefore snares are round about you,
and sudden terror overwhelms you;
[11] your light is darkened, so that you cannot see,
and a flood of water covers you.
[12] "Is not God high in the heavens?
See the highest stars, how lofty they are!
[13] Therefore you say, `What does God know?
Can he judge through the deep darkness?
[14] Thick clouds enwrap him, so that he does not see,
and he walks on the vault of heaven.'
[15] Will you keep to the old way
which wicked men have trod?
[16] They were snatched away before their time;
their foundation was washed away.
[17] They said to God, `Depart from us,'
and `What can the Almighty do to us?'
[18] Yet he filled their houses with good things --
but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
[19] The righteous see it and are glad;
the innocent laugh them to scorn,
[20] saying, `Surely our adversaries are cut off,
and what they left the fire has consumed.'
[21] "Agree with God, and be at peace;
thereby good will come to you.
[22] Receive instruction from his mouth,
and lay up his words in your heart.
[23] If you return to the Almighty and humble yourself,
if you remove unrighteousness far from your tents,
[24] if you lay gold in the dust,
and gold of Ophir among the stones of the torrent bed,
[25] and if the Almighty is your gold,
and your precious silver;
[26] then you will delight yourself in the Almighty,
and lift up your face to God.
[27] You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you;
and you will pay your vows.
[28] You will decide on a matter, and it will be established for you,
and light will shine on your ways.
[29] For God abases the proud,
but he saves the lowly.
[30] He delivers the innocent man;
you will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands."

　

22 장

[1] 데만 사람 엘리바스가 대답하여 가로되
[2] 사람이 어찌 하나님께 유익하게 하겠느냐 지혜로운 자도 스스로 유익할 따름이니라
[3] 네가 의로운들 전능자에게 무슨 기쁨이 있겠으며 네 행위가 온전한들 그에게 무슨 이익이 있겠느냐
[4] 하나님이 너를 책망하시며 너를 심문하심이 너의 경외함을 인함 이냐
[5] 네 악이 크지 아니하냐 네 죄악이 극하니라
[6] 까닭없이 형제의 물건을 볼모 잡으며 헐벗은 자의 의복을 벗기며
[7] 갈한 자에게 물을 마시우지 아니하며 주린 자에게 식물을 주지 아니하였구나
[8] 권세있는 자가 토지를 얻고 존귀한 자가 거기서 사는구나
[9] 네가 과부를 공수로 돌아가게 하며 고아의 팔을 꺾는구나
[10] 이러므로 올무들이 너를 둘러있고 두려움이 홀연히 너를 침범하며
[11] 어두움이 너로 보지 못하게 하고 창수가 너를 덮느니라
[12] 하나님이 높은 하늘에 계시지 아니하냐 보라 별의 높음이 얼마나 높은가
[13] 그러나 네 말은 하나님이 무엇을 아시며 흑암 중에서 어찌 심판 하실 수 있으랴
[14] 빽빽한 구름이 그를 가리운즉 그가 보지 못하시고 궁창으로 걸어다니실 뿐이라 하는구나
[15] 네가 악인의 밟던 옛적 길을 지키려느냐
[16] 그들은 때가 이르기 전에 끊어버리웠고 그 터는 하수로 인하여 함몰되었느니라
[17] 그들이 하나님께 말하기를 우리를 떠나소서 하며 또 말하기를 전능자가 우리를 위하여 무엇을 하실 수 있으랴 하였으나
[18] 하나님이 좋은 것으로 그 집에 채우셨느니라 악인의 계획은 나와 판이하니라
[19] 의인은 보고 기뻐하고 무죄자는 그들을 비웃기를
[20] 우리의 대적이 끊어졌고 그 남은 것이 불사른 바 되었다 하느니라
[21] 너는 하나님과 화목하고 평안하라 그리하면 복이 네게 임하리라
[22] 청컨대 너는 그 입에서 교훈을 받고 그 말씀을 네 마음에 두라
[23] 네가 만일 전능자에게로 돌아가고 또 네 장막에서 불의를 멀리 버리면 다시 흥하리라
[24] 네 보배를 진토에 버리고 오빌의 금을 강 가의 돌에 버리라
[25] 그리하면 전능자가 네 보배가 되시며 네게 귀한 은이 되시리니
[26] 이에 네가 전능자를 기뻐하여 하나님께로 얼굴을 들 것이라
[27] 너는 그에게 기도하겠고 그는 들으실 것이며 너의 서원한 것을 네가 갚으리라
[28] 네가 무엇을 경영하면 이루어질 것이요 네 길에 빛이 비취리라
[29] 네가 낮춤을 받거든 높아지리라고 말하라 하나님은 겸손한 자를 구원하시느니라
[30] 무죄한 자가 아니라도 건지시리니 네 손이 깨끗함을 인하여 그런자가 건지심을 입으리라

　

Job.23

[1] Then Job answered:
[2] "Today also my complaint is bitter,
his hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.
[3] Oh, that I knew where I might find him,
that I might come even to his seat!
[4] I would lay my case before him
and fill my mouth with arguments.
[5] I would learn what he would answer me,
and understand what he would say to me.
[6] Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power?
No; he would give heed to me.
[7] There an upright man could reason with him,
and I should be acquitted for ever by my judge.
[8] "Behold, I go forward, but he is not there;
and backward, but I cannot perceive him;
[9] on the left hand I seek him, but I cannot behold him;
I turn to the right hand, but I cannot see him.
[10] But he knows the way that I take;
when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
[11] My foot has held fast to his steps;
I have kept his way and have not turned aside.
[12] I have not departed from the commandment of his lips;
I have treasured in my bosom the words of his mouth.
[13] But he is unchangeable and who can turn him?
What he desires, that he does.
[14] For he will complete what he appoints for me;
and many such things are in his mind.
[15] Therefore I am terrified at his presence;
when I consider, I am in dread of him.
[16] God has made my heart faint;
the Almighty has terrified me;
[17] for I am hemmed in by darkness,
and thick darkness covers my face.

　

23 장

[1] 욥이 대답하여 가로되
[2] 내가 오늘도 혹독히 원망하니 받는 재앙이 탄식보다 중함이니라
[3] 내가 어찌하면 하나님 발견할 곳을 알꼬 그리하면 그 보좌 앞에 나아가서
[4] 그 앞에서 호소하며 변백할 말을 입에 채우고
[5] 내게 대답하시는 말씀을 내가 알고 내게 이르시는 것을 내가 깨달으리라
[6] 그가 큰 권능을 가지시고 나로 더불어 다투실까 아니라 도리어 내 말을 들으시리라
[7] 거기서는 정직자가 그와 변론할 수 있은즉 내가 심판자에게서 영영히 벗어나리라
[8] 그런데 내가 앞으로 가도 그가 아니 계시고 뒤로 가도 보이지 아니하며
[9] 그가 왼편에서 일하시나 내가 만날 수 없고 그가 오른편으로 돌이키시나 뵈올 수 없구나
[10] 나의 가는 길을 오직 그가 아시나니 그가 나를 단련하신 후에는 내가 정금 같이 나오리라
[11] 내 발이 그의 걸음을 바로 따랐으며 내가 그의 길을 지켜 치우치지 아니하였고
[12] 내가 그의 입술의 명령을 어기지 아니하고 일정한 음식보다 그 입의 말씀을 귀히 여겼구나
[13] 그는 뜻이 일정하시니 누가 능히 돌이킬까 그 마음에 하고자 하시는 것이면 그것을 행하시나니
[14] 그런즉 내게 작정하신 것을 이루실 것이라 이런 일이 그에게 많이 있느니라
[15] 그러므로 내가 그의 앞에서 떨며 이를 생각하고 그를 두려워하는구나
[16] 하나님이 나로 낙심케 하시며 전능자가 나로 두렵게 하시나니
[17] 이는 어두움으로 나를 끊지 아니하셨고 흑암으로 내 얼굴을 가리우지 아니하셨음이니라

　

Job.24

[1] "Why are not times of judgment kept by the Almighty,
and why do those who know him never see his days?
[2] Men remove landmarks;
they seize flocks and pasture them.
[3] They drive away the ass of the fatherless;
they take the widow's ox for a pledge.
[4] They thrust the poor off the road;
the poor of the earth all hide themselves.
[5] Behold, like wild asses in the desert
they go forth to their toil,
seeking prey in the wilderness
as food for their children.
[6] They gather their fodder in the field
and they glean the vineyard of the wicked man.
[7] They lie all night naked, without clothing,
and have no covering in the cold.
[8] They are wet with the rain of the mountains,
and cling to the rock for want of shelter.
[9] (There are those who snatch the fatherless child from the breast,
and take in pledge the infant of the poor.)
[10] They go about naked, without clothing;
hungry, they carry the sheaves;
[11] among the olive rows of the wicked they make oil;
they tread the wine presses, but suffer thirst.
[12] From out of the city the dying groan,
and the soul of the wounded cries for help;
yet God pays no attention to their prayer.
[13] "There are those who rebel against the light,
who are not acquainted with its ways,
and do not stay in its paths.
[14] The murderer rises in the dark,
that he may kill the poor and needy;
and in the night he is as a thief.
[15] The eye of the adulterer also waits for the twilight,
saying, `No eye will see me';
and he disguises his face.
[16] In the dark they dig through houses;
by day they shut themselves up;
they do not know the light.
[17] For deep darkness is morning to all of them;
for they are friends with the terrors of deep darkness.
[18] "You say, "They are swiftly carried away upon the face of the waters;
their portion is cursed in the land;
no treader turns toward their vineyards.
[19] Drought and heat snatch away the snow waters;
so does Sheol those who have sinned.
[20] The squares of the town forget them;
their name is no longer remembered;
so wickedness is broken like a tree.'
[21] "They feed on the barren childless woman,
and do no good to the widow.
[22] Yet God prolongs the life of the mighty by his power;
they rise up when they despair of life.
[23] He gives them security, and they are supported;
and his eyes are upon their ways.
[24] They are exalted a little while, and then are gone;
they wither and fade like the mallow;
they are cut off like the heads of grain.
[25] If it is not so, who will prove me a liar,
and show that there is nothing in what I say?"

　

24 장

[1] 어찌하여 전능자가 시기를 정하지 아니하셨는고 어찌하여 그를 아는 자들이 그의 날을 보지 못하는고
[2] 어떤 사람은 지계표를 옮기며 양떼를 빼앗아 기르며
[3] 고아의 나귀를 몰아 가며 과부의 소를 볼모 잡으며
[4] 빈궁한 자를 길에서 몰아 내나니 세상에 가난한 자가 다 스스로 숨는구나
[5] 그들은 거친 땅의 들나귀 같아서 나가서 일하며 먹을 것을 부지 런히 구하니 광야가 그 자식을 위하여 그에게 식물을 내는구나
[6] 밭에서 남의 곡식을 베며 악인의 남겨 둔 포도를 따며
[7] 의복이 없어 벗은 몸으로 밤을 지내며 추위에 덮을 것이 없으며
[8] 산 중 소나기에 젖으며 가리울 것이 없어 바위를 안고 있느니라
[9] 어떤 사람은 고아를 어미 품에서 빼앗으며 가난한 자의 옷을 볼 모 잡으므로
[10] 그들이 옷이 없어 벌거벗고 다니며 주리면서 곡식 단을 메며
[11] 그 사람의 담 안에서 기름을 짜며 목말라하면서 술 틀을 밟느니라
[12] 인구 많은 성 중에서 사람들이 신음하며 상한 자가 부르짖으나 하나님이 그 불의를 보지 아니하시느니라
[13] 또 광명을 배반하는 사람들은 이러하니 그들은 광명의 길을 알지못하며 그 첩경에 머물지 아니하는 자라
[14] 사람을 죽이는 자는 새벽에 일어나서 가난한 자나 빈궁한 자를 죽이고 밤에는 도적 같이 되며
[15] 간음하는 자의 눈은 저물기를 바라며 아무 눈도 나를 보지 못하리라 하고 얼굴을 변장하며
[16] 밤에 집을 뚫는 자는 낮에는 문을 닫고 있은즉 광명을 알지 못하나니
[17] 그들은 다 아침을 흑암 같이 여기니 흑암의 두려움을 앎이니라
[18] 그들은 물 위에 빨리 흘러가고 그 산업은 세상에서 저주를 받나니 그들이 다시는 포도원 길로 행치 못할 것이라
[19] 가뭄과 더위가 눈 녹은 물을 곧 말리나니 음부가 범죄자에게도 그와 같은 것인즉
[20] 태가 그를 잊어버리고 구더기가 그를 달게 먹을 것이라 그는 기억함을 다시 얻지 못하나니 불의가 나무처럼 꺾이리라
[21] 그는 잉태치 못하므로 해산치 못한 여인을 학대하며 과부를 선대치 아니하는 자니라
[22] 그러나 하나님이 그 권능으로 강한 자들을 보존시키시니 살기를 바라지 못할 자도 일어나는구나
[23] 하나님이 그들을 호위하사 평안케 하시나 그 눈은 그들의 길에 있구나
[24] 그들은 높아져도 잠시간에 없어지나니 낮아져서 범인처럼 제함을 당하고 곡식 이삭 같이 베임을 입느니라
[25] 가령 그렇지 않을지라도 능히 내 말을 거짓되다 지적하거나 내 말이 헛되다 변박할 자 누구랴

　

Job.25

[1] Then Bildad the Shuhite answered:
[2] "Dominion and fear are with God;
he makes peace in his high heaven.
[3] Is there any number to his armies?
Upon whom does his light not arise?
[4] How then can man be righteous before God?
How can he who is born of woman be clean?
[5] Behold, even the moon is not bright
and the stars are not clean in his sight;
[6] how much less man, who is a maggot,
and the son of man, who is a worm!"

　

25 장

[1] 수아 사람 빌닷이 대답하여 가로되
[2] 하나님은 권능과 위엄을 가지셨고 지극히 높은 곳에서 화평을 베푸시느니라
[3] 그 군대를 어찌 계수할 수 있으랴 그 광명의 비췸을 입지 않은 자가 누구냐
[4] 그런즉 하나님 앞에서 사람이 어찌 의롭다 하며 부녀에게서 난 자가 어찌 깨끗하다 하랴
[5] 하나님의 눈에는 달이라도 명랑치 못하고 별도 깨끗지 못하거든
[6] 하물며 벌레인 사람,구더기인 인생이랴

　

Job.26

[1] Then Job answered:
[2] "How you have helped him who has no power!
How you have saved the arm that has no strength!
[3] How you have counseled him who has no wisdom,
and plentifully declared sound knowledge!
[4] With whose help have you uttered words,
and whose spirit has come forth from you?
[5] The shades below tremble,
the waters and their inhabitants.
[6] Sheol is naked before God,
and Abaddon has no covering.
[7] He stretches out the north over the void,
and hangs the earth upon nothing.
[8] He binds up the waters in his thick clouds,
and the cloud is not rent under them.
[9] He covers the face of the moon,
and spreads over it his cloud.
[10] He has described a circle upon the face of the waters
at the boundary between light and darkness.
[11] The pillars of heaven tremble,
and are astounded at his rebuke.
[12] By his power he stilled the sea;
by his understanding he smote Rahab.
[13] By his wind the heavens were made fair;
his hand pierced the fleeing serpent.
[14] Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways;
and how small a whisper do we hear of him!
But the thunder of his power who can understand?"

　

26 장

[1] 욥이 대답하여 가로되
[2] 네가 힘 없는 자를 참 잘 도왔구나 기력 없는 팔을 참 잘 구원하였구나
[3] 지혜 없는 자를 참 잘 가르쳤구나 큰 지식을 참 잘 나타내었구나
[4] 네가 누구를 향하여 말을 내었느냐 뉘 신이 네게서 나왔느냐
[5] 음령들이 큰 물과 수족 밑에서 떠나니
[6] 하나님 앞에는 음부도 드러나며 멸망의 웅덩이도 가리움이 없음 이니라
[7] 그는 북편 하늘을 허공에 펴시며 땅을 공간에 다시며
[8] 물을 빽빽한 구름에 싸시나 그 밑의 구름이 찢어지지 아니하느니라
[9] 그는 자기의 보좌 앞을 가리우시고 자기 구름으로 그 위에 펴시며
[10] 수면에 경계를 그으셨으되 빛과 어두움의 지경까지 한정을 세우셨느니라
[11] 그가 꾸짖으신즉 하늘 기둥이 떨며 놀라느니라
[12] 그는 권능으로 바다를 흉용케 하시며 지혜로 라합을 쳐서 파하시며
[13] 그 신으로 하늘을 단장하시고 손으로 날랜 뱀을 찌르시나니
[14] 이런 것은 그 행사의 시작점이요 우리가 그에게 대하여 들은 것도 심히 세미한 소리뿐이니라 그 큰 능력의 우뢰야 누가 능히 측량하랴

　

Job.27

[1] And Job again took up his discourse, and said:
[2] "As God lives, who has taken away my right,
and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter;
[3] as long as my breath is in me,
and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;
[4] my lips will not speak falsehood,
and my tongue will not utter deceit.
[5] Far be it from me to say that you are right;
till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.
[6] I hold fast my righteousness, and will not let it go;
my heart does not reproach me for any of my days.
[7] "Let my enemy be as the wicked,
and let him that rises up against me be as the unrighteous.
[8] For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off,
when God takes away his life?
[9] Will God hear his cry,
when trouble comes upon him?
[10] Will he take delight in the Almighty?
Will he call upon God at all times?
[11] I will teach you concerning the hand of God;
what is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
[12] Behold, all of you have seen it yourselves;
why then have you become altogether vain?
[13] "This is the portion of a wicked man with God,
and the heritage which oppressors receive from the Almighty:
[14] If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword;
and his offspring have not enough to eat.
[15] Those who survive him the pestilence buries,
and their widows make no lamentation.
[16] Though he heap up silver like dust,
and pile up clothing like clay;
[17] he may pile it up, but the just will wear it,
and the innocent will divide the silver.
[18] The house which he builds is like a spider's web,
like a booth which a watchman makes.
[19] He goes to bed rich, but will do so no more;
he opens his eyes, and his wealth is gone.
[20] Terrors overtake him like a flood;
in the night a whirlwind carries him off.
[21] The east wind lifts him up and he is gone;
it sweeps him out of his place.
[22] It hurls at him without pity;
he flees from its power in headlong flight.
[23] It claps its hands at him,
and hisses at him from its place.

　

27 장

[1] 욥이 또 비사를 들어 가로되
[2] 나의 의를 빼앗으신 하나님 나의 영혼을 괴롭게 하신 전능자의 사심을 가리켜 맹세하노니
[3]
[ ] (나의 생명이 아직 내 속에 완전히 있고 하나님의 기운이 오히려 내 코에 있느니라)
[4] 결코 내 입술이 불의를 말하지 아니하며 내 혀가 궤휼을 발하지 아니하리라
[5] 나는 단정코 너희를 옳다 하지 아니하겠고 죽기 전에는 나의 순전함을 버리지 않을 것이라
[6] 내가 내 의를 굳게 잡고 놓지 아니하리니 일평생 내 마음이 나를 책망치 아니하리라
[7] 나의 대적은 악인 같이 되고 일어나 나를 치는 자는 불의한 자 같이 되기를 원하노라
[8] 사곡한 자가 이익을 얻었으나 하나님이 그 영혼을 취하실 때에는 무슨 소망이 있으랴
[9] 환난이 그에게 임할 때에 하나님이 어찌 그 부르짖음을 들으시랴
[10] 그가 어찌 전능자를 기뻐하겠느냐 항상 하나님께 불러 아뢰겠느냐
[11] 하나님의 하시는 일을 내가 너희에게 가르칠 것이요 전능자의 뜻을 내가 숨기지 아니하리라
[12] 너희가 다 이것을 보았거늘 어찌하여 아주 허탄한 사람이 되었는고
[13] 악인이 하나님께 얻을 분깃,강포자가 전능자에게 받을 산업은 이것이라
[14] 그 자손이 번성하여도 칼을 위함이요 그 후에는 식물에 배부르지 못할 것이며
[15] 그 남은 자는 염병으로 묻히리니 그의 과부들이 울지 못할 것이며
[16] 그가 비록 은을 티끌같이 쌓고 의복을 진흙같이 예비할지라도
[17] 그 예비한 것을 의인이 입을 것이요 그 은은 무죄자가 나눌 것이며
[18] 그 지은 집은 좀의 집 같고 상직군의 초막 같을 것이며
[19] 부자로 누우나 그 조상에게로 돌아가지 못할 것이요 눈을 뜬즉 없어졌으리라
[20] 두려움이 물 같이 그를 따라 미칠 것이요 폭풍이 밤에 그를 빼앗아갈 것이며
[21] 동풍이 그를 날려 보내며 그 처소에서 몰아 내리라
[22] 하나님이 그를 아끼지 아니하시고 쏘시나니 그가 그 손에서 피하려 하여도 못할 것이라
[23] 사람들이 박장하며 비소하고 그 처소에서 몰아내리라

　

Job.28

[1] "Surely there is a mine for silver,
and a place for gold which they refine.
[2] Iron is taken out of the earth,
and copper is smelted from the ore.
[3] Men put an end to darkness,
and search out to the farthest bound
the ore in gloom and deep darkness.
[4] They open shafts in a valley away from where men live;
they are forgotten by travelers,
they hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.
[5] As for the earth, out of it comes bread;
but underneath it is turned up as by fire.
[6] Its stones are the place of sapphires,
and it has dust of gold.
[7] "That path no bird of prey knows,
and the falcon's eye has not seen it.
[8] The proud beasts have not trodden it;
the lion has not passed over it.
[9] "Man puts his hand to the flinty rock,
and overturns mountains by the roots.
[10] He cuts out channels in the rocks,
and his eye sees every precious thing.
[11] He binds up the streams so that they do not trickle,
and the thing that is hid he brings forth to light.
[12] "But where shall wisdom be found?
And where is the place of understanding?
[13] Man does not know the way to it,
and it is not found in the land of the living.
[14] The deep says, `It is not in me,'
and the sea says, `It is not with me.'
[15] It cannot be gotten for gold,
and silver cannot be weighed as its price.
[16] It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir,
in precious onyx or sapphire.
[17] Gold and glass cannot equal it,
nor can it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.
[18] No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal;
the price of wisdom is above pearls.
[19] The topaz of Ethiopia cannot compare with it,
nor can it be valued in pure gold.
[20] "Whence then comes wisdom?
And where is the place of understanding?
[21] It is hid from the eyes of all living,
and concealed from the birds of the air.
[22] Abaddon and Death say,
`We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.'
[23] "God understands the way to it,
and he knows its place.
[24] For he looks to the ends of the earth,
and sees everything under the heavens.
[25] When he gave to the wind its weight,
and meted out the waters by measure;
[26] when he made a decree for the rain,
and a way for the lightning of the thunder;
[27] then he saw it and declared it;
he established it, and searched it out.
[28] And he said to man,
`Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom;
and to depart from evil is understanding.'"

[1] 은은 나는 광이 있고 연단하는 금은 나는 곳이 있으며
[2] 철은 흙에서 취하고 동은 돌에서 녹여 얻느니라
[3] 사람이 흑암을 파하고 끝까지 궁구하여 음예와 유암 중의 광석을 구하되
[4] 사람 사는 곳에서 멀리 떠나 구멍을 깊이 뚫고 발이 땅에 닿지 않게 달려 내리니 멀리 사람과 격절되고 흔들흔들 하느니라
[5] 지면은 식물을 내나 지하는 불로 뒤집는 것같고
[6] 그 돌 가운데에는 남보석이 있고 사금도 있으며
[7] 그 길은 솔개도 알지 못하고 매의 눈도 보지 못하며
[8] 위엄스러운 짐승도 밟지 못하였고 사나운 사자도 그리로 지나가지 못하였느니라
[9] 사람이 굳은 바위에 손을 대고 산을 뿌리까지 무너뜨리며
[10] 돌 가운데로 도랑을 파서 각종 보물을 눈으로 발견하고
[11] 시냇물을 막아 스미지 않게 하고 감취었던 것을 밝은 데로 내느니라
[12] 그러나 지혜는 어디서 얻으며 명철의 곳은 어디인고
[13] 그 값을 사람이 알지 못하나니 사람 사는 땅에서 찾을 수 없구나
[14] 깊은 물이 이르기를 내 속에 있지 아니하다 하며 바다가 이르기를 나와 함께 있지 아니하다 하느니라
[15] 정금으로도 바꿀 수 없고 은을 달아도 그 값을 당치 못하리니
[16] 오빌의 금이나 귀한 수마노나 남보석으로도 그 값을 당치 못하겠고
[17] 황금이나 유리라도 비교할 수 없고 정금 장식으로도 바꿀 수 없으며
[18] 산호나 수정으로도 말할 수 없나니 지혜의 값은 홍보석보다 귀하구나
[19] 구스의 황옥으로도 비교할 수 없고 순금으로도 그 값을 측량하지못하리니
[20] 그런즉 지혜는 어디서 오며 명철의 곳은 어디인고
[21] 모든 생물의 눈에 숨겨졌고 공중의 새에게 가리워졌으며
[22] 멸망과 사망도 이르기를 우리가 귀로 그 소문은 들었다 하느니라
[23] 하나님이 그 길을 깨달으시며 있는 곳을 아시나니
[24] 이는 그가 땅 끝까지 감찰하시며 온 천하를 두루 보시며
[25] 바람의 경중을 정하시며 물을 되어 그 분량을 정하시며
[26] 비를 위하여 명령하시고 우뢰의 번개를 위하여 길을 정하셨음이라
[27] 그 때에 지혜를 보시고 선포하시며 굳게 세우시며 궁구하셨고
[28] 또 사람에게 이르시기를 주를 경외함이 곧 지혜요 악을 떠남이 명철이라 하셨느니라

　

Job.29

[1] And Job again took up his discourse, and said:
[2] "Oh, that I were as in the months of old,
as in the days when God watched over me;
[3] when his lamp shone upon my head,
and by his light I walked through darkness;
[4] as I was in my autumn days,
when the friendship of God was upon my tent;
[5] when the Almighty was yet with me,
when my children were about me;
[6] when my steps were washed with milk,
and the rock poured out for me streams of oil!
[7] When I went out to the gate of the city,
when I prepared my seat in the square,
[8] the young men saw me and withdrew,
and the aged rose and stood;
[9] the princes refrained from talking,
and laid their hand on their mouth;
[10] the voice of the nobles was hushed,
and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
[11] When the ear heard, it called me blessed,
and when the eye saw, it approved;
[12] because I delivered the poor who cried,
and the fatherless who had none to help him.
[13] The blessing of him who was about to perish came upon me,
and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
[14] I put on righteousness, and it clothed me;
my justice was like a robe and a turban.
[15] I was eyes to the blind,
and feet to the lame.
[16] I was a father to the poor,
and I searched out the cause of him whom I did not know.
[17] I broke the fangs of the unrighteous,
and made him drop his prey from his teeth.
[18] Then I thought, `I shall die in my nest,
and I shall multiply my days as the sand,
[19] my roots spread out to the waters,
with the dew all night on my branches,
[20] my glory fresh with me,
and my bow ever new in my hand.'
[21] "Men listened to me, and waited,
and kept silence for my counsel.
[22] After I spoke they did not speak again,
and my word dropped upon them.
[23] They waited for me as for the rain;
and they opened their mouths as for the spring rain.
[24] I smiled on them when they had no confidence;
and the light of my countenance they did not cast down.
[25] I chose their way, and sat as chief,
and I dwelt like a king among his troops,
like one who comforts mourners.

[1] 욥이 또 비사를 들어 가로되
[2] 내가 이전 달과 하나님이 나를 보호하시던 날에 지내던것 같이 되었으면
[3] 그 때는 그의 등불이 내 머리에 비취었고 내가 그 광명을 힘입어 흑암에 행하였었느니라
[4] 나의 강장하던 날과 같이 지내었으면 그 때는 하나님의 우정이 내 장막 위에 있었으며
[5] 그 때는 전능자가 오히려 나와 함께 계셨으며 나의 자녀들이 나를 둘러 있었으며
[6] 뻐터가 내 발자취를 씻기며 반석이 나를 위하여 기름 시내를 흘러 내었으며
[7] 그 때는 내가 나가서 성문에 이르기도 하며 내 자리를 거리에 베풀기도 하였었느니라
[8] 나를 보고 소년들은 숨으며 노인들은 일어나서 서며
[9] 방백들은 말을 참고 손으로 입을 가리우며
[10] 귀인들은 소리를 금하니 그 혀가 입 천장에 붙었었느니라
[11] 귀가 들은즉 나를 위하여 축복하고 눈이 본즉 나를 위하여 증거 하였었나니
[12] 이는 내가 부르짖는 빈민과 도와줄 자 없는 고아를 건졌음이라
[13] 망하게 된 자도 나를 위하여 복을 빌었으며 과부의 마음이 나로 인하여 기뻐 노래하였었느니라
[14] 내가 의로 옷을 삼아 입었으며 나의 공의는 도포와 면류관 같았었느니라
[15] 나는 소경의 눈도 되고 절뚝발이의 발도 되고
[16] 빈궁한 자의 아비도 되며 생소한 자의 일을 사실하여 주었으며
[17] 불의한 자의 어금니를 꺽고 그 잇사이에서 겁탈한 물건을 빼어 내었었느니라
[18] 내가 스스로 말하기를 나는 내 보금자리에서 선종하리라 나의 날은 모래 같이 많을 것이라
[19] 내 뿌리는 물로 뻗어나가고 내 가지는 밤이 맞도록 이슬에 젖으 며
[20] 내 영광은 내게 새로와지고 내 활은 내 손에서 날로 강하여지느니라 하였었노라
[21] 무리는 내 말을 들으며 나의 가르치기를 잠잠히 기다리다가
[22] 내가 말한 후에 그들이 말을 내지 못하였었나니 나의 말이 그들에게 이슬같이 됨이니라
[23] 그들이 나 바라기를 비 같이 하였으며 입을 벌리기를 늦은 비 기다리듯 하였으므로
[24] 그들이 의지 없을 때에 내가 함소하여 동정하면 그들이 나의 얼굴 빛을 무색하게 아니하였었느니라
[25] 내가 그들의 길을 택하고 으뜸으로 앉았었나니 왕이 군중에 거함도 같았고 애곡하는 자를 위로하는 사람도 같았었느니라

　

Job.30

[1] "But now they make sport of me,
men who are younger than I,
whose fathers I would have disdained
to set with the dogs of my flock.
[2] What could I gain from the strength of their hands,
men whose vigor is gone?
[3] Through want and hard hunger
they gnaw the dry and desolate ground;
[4] they pick mallow and the leaves of bushes,
and to warm themselves the roots of the broom.
[5] They are driven out from among men;
they shout after them as after a thief.
[6] In the gullies of the torrents they must dwell,
in holes of the earth and of the rocks.
[7] Among the bushes they bray;
under the nettles they huddle together.
[8] A senseless, a disreputable brood,
they have been whipped out of the land.
[9] "And now I have become their song,
I am a byword to them.
[10] They abhor me, they keep aloof from me;
they do not hesitate to spit at the sight of me.
[11] Because God has loosed my cord and humbled me,
they have cast off restraint in my presence.
[12] On my right hand the rabble rise,
they drive me forth,
they cast up against me their ways of destruction.
[13] They break up my path,
they promote my calamity;
no one restrains them.
[14] As through a wide breach they come;
amid the crash they roll on.
[15] Terrors are turned upon me;
my honor is pursued as by the wind,
and my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.
[16] "And now my soul is poured out within me;
days of affliction have taken hold of me.
[17] The night racks my bones,
and the pain that gnaws me takes no rest.
[18] With violence it seizes my garment;
it binds me about like the collar of my tunic.
[19] God has cast me into the mire,
and I have become like dust and ashes.
[20] I cry to thee and thou dost not answer me;
I stand, and thou dost not heed me.
[21] Thou hast turned cruel to me;
with the might of thy hand thou dost persecute me.
[22] Thou liftest me up on the wind, thou makest me ride on it,
and thou tossest me about in the roar of the storm.
[23] Yea, I know that thou wilt bring me to death,
and to the house appointed for all living.
[24] "Yet does not one in a heap of ruins stretch out his hand,
and in his disaster cry for help?
[25] Did not I weep for him whose day was hard?
Was not my soul grieved for the poor?
[26] But when I looked for good, evil came;
and when I waited for light, darkness came.
[27] My heart is in turmoil, and is never still;
days of affliction come to meet me.
[28] I go about blackened, but not by the sun;
I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help.
[29] I am a brother of jackals,
and a companion of ostriches.
[30] My skin turns black and falls from me,
and my bones burn with heat.
[31] My lyre is turned to mourning,
and my pipe to the voice of those who weep.

[1] 그러나 이제는 나보다 젊은 자들이 나를 기롱하는구나 그들의 아비들은 나의 보기에 나의 양떼 지키는 개 중에도 둘만하지 못한 자니라
[2] 그들은 장년의 기력이 쇠한 자니 그 손의 힘이 내게 무엇이 유익하랴
[3] 그들은 곧 궁핍과 기근으로 파리하매 캄캄하고 거친 들에서 마른 흙을 씹으며
[4] 떨기나무 가운데서 짠 나물도 꺾으며 대싸리 뿌리로 식물을 삼느니라
[5] 무리는 도적을 외침 같이 그들에게 소리지름으로 그들은 사람 가운데서 쫓겨나서
[6] 침침한 골짜기와 구덩이와 바위 구멍에서 살며
[7] 떨기나무 가운데서 나귀처럼 부르짖으며 가시나무 아래 모여 있느니라
[8] 그들은 본래 미련한 자의 자식이요 비천한 자의 자식으로서 고토에서 쫓겨난 자니라
[9] 이제는 내가 그들의 노래가 되며 그들의 조롱거리가 되었고
[10] 그들은 나를 미워하여 멀리하고 내 얼굴에 침 뱉기를 주저하지 아니하나니
[11] 이는 하나님이 내 줄을 늘어지게 하시고 나를 곤고케 하시매 무리가 내 앞에서 굴레를 벗었음이니라
[12] 그 낮은 무리가 내 우편에서 일어나 내 발을 밀뜨리고 나를 대적하여 멸망시킬 길을 쌓으며
[13] 도울 자 없는 그들이 내 길을 헐고 내 재앙을 재촉하는구나
[14] 성을 크게 파괴하고 그 파괴한 가운데로 몰려 들어 오는것 같이 그들이 내게로 달려드니
[15] 놀람이 내게 임하는구나 그들이 내 영광을 바람 같이 모니 내 복록이 구름 같이 지나갔구나
[16] 이제는 내 마음이 내 속에서 녹으니 환난날이 나를 잡음이라
[17] 밤이 되면 내 뼈가 쑤시니 나의 몸에 아픔이 쉬지 아니하는구나
[18] 하나님의 큰 능력으로 하여 옷이 추하여져서 옷깃처럼 내몸에 붙었구나
[19] 하나님이 나를 진흙 가운데 던지셨고 나로 티끌과 재 같게 하셨구나
[20] 내가 주께 부르짖으오나 주께서 대답지 아니하시오며 내가 섰사오나 주께서 굽어보시기만 하시나이다
[21] 주께서 돌이켜 내게 잔혹히 하시고 완력으로 나를 핍박하시오며
[22] 나를 바람 위에 들어 얹어 불려가게 하시며 대풍 중에 소멸케 하시나이다
[23] 내가 아나이다 주께서 나를 죽게 하사 모든 생물을 위하여 정한 집으로 끌어 가시리이다
[24] 그러나 사람이 넘어질 때에 어찌 손을 펴지 아니하며 재앙을 당할 때에 어찌 도움을 부르짖지 아니하겠는가
[25] 고생의 날 보내는 자를 위하여 내가 울지 아니하였는가 빈궁한 자를 위하여 내 마음에 근심하지 아니하였는가
[26] 내가 복을 바랐더니 화가 왔고 광명을 기다렸더니 흑암이 왔구나
[27] 내 마음이 어지러워서 쉬지 못하는구나 환난 날이 내게 임하였구나
[28] 나는 햇볕에 쬐지 않고 검어진 살을 가지고 걸으며 공회 중에 서서 도움을 부르짖고 있느니라
[29] 나는 이리의 형제요 타조의 벗이로구나
[30] 내 수금은 애곡성이 되고 내 피리는 애통성이 되었구나

　

Job.31

[1] "I have made a covenant with my eyes;
how then could I look upon a virgin?
[2] What would be my portion from God above,
and my heritage from the Almighty on high?
[3] Does not calamity befall the unrighteous,
and disaster the workers of iniquity?
[4] Does not he see my ways,
and number all my steps?
[5] "If I have walked with falsehood,
and my foot has hastened to deceit;
[6] (Let me be weighed in a just balance,
and let God know my integrity!)
[7] if my step has turned aside from the way,
and my heart has gone after my eyes,
and if any spot has cleaved to my hands;
[8] then let me sow, and another eat;
and let what grows for me be rooted out.
[9] "If my heart has been enticed to a woman,
and I have lain in wait at my neighbor's door;
[10] then let my wife grind for another,
and let others bow down upon her.
[11] For that would be a heinous crime;
that would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges;
[12] for that would be a fire which consumes unto Abaddon,
and it would burn to the root all my increase.
[13] "If I have rejected the cause of my manservant or my maidservant,
when they brought a complaint against me;
[14] what then shall I do when God rises up?
When he makes inquiry, what shall I answer him?
[15] Did not he who made me in the womb make him?
And did not one fashion us in the womb?
[16] "If I have withheld anything that the poor desired,
or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,
[17] or have eaten my morsel alone,
and the fatherless has not eaten of it
[18] (for from his youth I reared him as a father,
and from his mother's womb I guided him);
[19] if I have seen any one perish for lack of clothing,
or a poor man without covering;
[20] if his loins have not blessed me,
and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;
[21] if I have raised my hand against the fatherless,
because I saw help in the gate;
[22] then let my shoulder blade fall from my shoulder,
and let my arm be broken from its socket.
[23] For I was in terror of calamity from God,
and I could not have faced his majesty.
[24] "If I have made gold my trust,
or called fine gold my confidence;
[25] if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great,
or because my hand had gotten much;
[26] if I have looked at the sun when it shone,
or the moon moving in splendor,
[27] and my heart has been secretly enticed,
and my mouth has kissed my hand;
[28] this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges,
for I should have been false to God above.
[29] "If I have rejoiced at the ruin of him that hated me,
or exulted when evil overtook him
[30] (I have not let my mouth sin
by asking for his life with a curse);
[31] if the men of my tent have not said,
`Who is there that has not been filled with his meat?'
[32] (the sojourner has not lodged in the street;
I have opened my doors to the wayfarer);
[33] if I have concealed my transgressions from men,
by hiding my iniquity in my bosom,
[34] because I stood in great fear of the multitude,
and the contempt of families terrified me,
so that I kept silence, and did not go out of doors --
[35] Oh, that I had one to hear me!
(Here is my signature! let the Almighty answer me!)
Oh, that I had the indictment written by my adversary!
[36] Surely I would carry it on my shoulder;
I would bind it on me as a crown;
[37] I would give him an account of all my steps;
like a prince I would approach him.
[38] "If my land has cried out against me,
and its furrows have wept together;
[39] if I have eaten its yield without payment,
and caused the death of its owners;
[40] let thorns grow instead of wheat,
and foul weeds instead of barley."
The words of Job are ended.

　

31 장

[1] 내가 내 눈과 언약을 세웠나니 어찌 처녀에게 주목하랴
[2] 그리하면 위에 계신 하나님의 내리시는 분깃이 무엇이겠으며 높은 곳에서 전능자의 주시는 산업이 무엇이겠느냐
[3] 불의자에게는 환난이 아니겠느냐 행악자에게는 재앙이 아니겠느냐
[4] 그가 내 길을 감찰하지 아니하시느냐 내 걸음을 다 세지 아니하시느냐
[5] 언제 나의 행위가 허탄하였으며 내 발이 궤휼에 빨랐던가
[6] 그리하였으면 내가 공평한 저울에 달려서 하나님이 나의 정직함을 아시게 되기를 원하노라
[7] 언제 내 걸음이 길에서 떠났던가 내 마음이 내 눈을 따라갔던가 내 손에 더러운 것이 묻었던가
[8] 그리하였으면 나의 심은 것을 타인이 먹으며 나의 소산이 뿌리까지 뽑히는 것이 마땅하니라
[9] 언제 내 마음이 여인에게 유혹되어 이웃의 문을 엿보아 기다렸던가
[10] 그리하였으면 내 처가 타인의 매를 돌리며 타인이 더불어 동침하는 것이 마땅하니라
[11] 이는 중죄라 재판장에게 벌받을 악이요
[12] 멸망하도록 사르는 불이라 나의 모든 소산을 뿌리까지 없이할 것이니라
[13] 남종이나 여종이 나로 더불어 쟁변할 때에 내가 언제 그의 사정을 멸시하였던가
[14] 그리하였으면 하나님이 일어나실 때에는 내가 어떻게 하겠느냐 하나님이 국문하실 때에는 내가 무엇이라 대답하겠느냐
[15] 나를 태 속에 만드신 자가 그도 만들지 아니하셨느냐 우리를 뱃 속에 지으신 자가 하나가 아니시냐
[16] 내가 언제 가난한 자의 소원을 막았던가 과부의 눈으로 실망케 하였던가
[17] 나만 홀로 식물을 먹고 고아에게 먹이지 아니하였던가
[18] 실상은 내가 젊었을 때부터 고아를 기르기를 그의 아비처럼 하였으며 내가 모태에서 나온 후로 과부를 인도하였었노라
[19] 내가 언제 사람이 의복이 없이 죽게 된 것이나 빈궁한 자가 덮을것이 없는 것을 보고도
[20] 나의 양털로 그 몸을 더웁게 입혀서 그로 나를 위하여 복을 빌게하지 아니하였던가
[21] 나를 도와주는 자가 성문에 있음을 보고 내가 손을 들어 고아를 쳤던가
[22] 그리하였으면 내 어깨가 어깨뼈에서 떨어지고 내 팔 뼈가 부러짐이 마땅하니라
[23] 나는 하나님의 재앙을 심히 두려워하고 그 위엄을 인하여 아무 것도 할 수 없느니라
[24] 내가 언제 금으로 내 소망을 삼고 정금더러 너는 내 의뢰하는 바라 하였던가
[25] 언제 재물의 풍부함과 손으로 얻은 것이 많음으로 기뻐하였던가
[26] 언제 태양의 빛남과 달의 명랑하게 운행되는 것을 보고
[27] 내 마음이 가만히 유혹되어 손에 입맞추었던가
[28] 이 역시 재판장에게 벌 받을 죄악이니 내가 그리하였으면 위에 계신 하나님을 배반한 것이니라
[29] 내가 언제 나를 미워하는 자의 멸망을 기뻐하였으며 그의 재앙 만남을 인하여 기운을 뽐내었던가
[30] 실상은 내가 그의 죽기를 구하는 말로 저주하여 내 입으로 범죄케 아니하였느니라
[31] 내 장막 사람의 말이 주인의 고기에 배부르지 않은 자가 어디 있느뇨 하지 아니하였었는가
[32] 나그네로 거리에서 자게 하지 아니하고 내가 행인에게 내 문을 열어 주었었노라
[33] 내가 언제 큰 무리를 두려워하며 족속의 멸시를 무서워함으로 잠잠하고 문에 나가지 아니하여 타인처럼 내 죄악을 품에 숨겨 허물을 가리었었던가
[34] 상동
[35] 누구든지 나의 변백을 들을지니라 나의 서명이 여기 있으니 전능자가 내게 대답하시기를 원하노라 내 대적의 기록한 소송장이 내게 있으면
[36] 내가 어깨에 메기도 하고 면류관처럼 머리에 쓰기도 하며
[37] 내 걸음의 수효를 그에게 고하고 왕족처럼 그를 가까이 하였으리라
[38] 언제 내 토지가 부르짖어 나를 책망하며 그 이랑이 일시에 울었던가
[39] 언제 내가 값을 내지 않고 그 소산물을 먹고 그 소유주로 생명을 잃게 하였던가
[40] 그리하였으면 밀 대신에 찔레가 나고 보리 대신에 잡풀이 나는 것이 마땅하니라 하고 욥의 말이 그치니라

　

Job.32

[1] So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
[2] Then Eli'hu the son of Bar'achel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, became angry. He was angry at Job because he justified himself rather than God;
[3] he was angry also at Job's three friends because they had found no answer, although they had declared Job to be in the wrong.
[4] Now Eli'hu had waited to speak to Job because they were older than he.
[5] And when Eli'hu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, he became angry.
[6] And Eli'hu the son of Bar'achel the Buzite answered: "I am young in years,
and you are aged;
therefore I was timid and afraid
to declare my opinion to you.
[7] I said, `Let days speak,
and many years teach wisdom.'
[8] But it is the spirit in a man,
the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand.
[9] It is not the old that are wise,
nor the aged that understand what is right.
[10] Therefore I say, `Listen to me;
let me also declare my opinion.'
[11] "Behold, I waited for your words,
I listened for your wise sayings,
while you searched out what to say.
[12] I gave you my attention,
and, behold, there was none that confuted Job,
or that answered his words, among you.
[13] Beware lest you say, `We have found wisdom;
God may vanquish him, not man.'
[14] He has not directed his words against me,
and I will not answer him with your speeches.
[15] "They are discomfited, they answer no more;
they have not a word to say.
[16] And shall I wait, because they do not speak,
because they stand there, and answer no more?
[17] I also will give my answer;
I also will declare my opinion.
[18] For I am full of words,
the spirit within me constrains me.
[19] Behold, my heart is like wine that has no vent;
like new wineskins, it is ready to burst.
[20] I must speak, that I may find relief;
I must open my lips and answer.
[21] I will not show partiality to any person
or use flattery toward any man.
[22] For I do not know how to flatter,
else would my Maker soon put an end to me.

　

32 장

[1] 욥이 스스로 의롭게 여기므로 그 세 사람의 대답이 그치매
[2] 람 족속 부스 사람 바라겔의 아들 엘리후가 노를 발하니 그가 욥에게 노를 발함은 욥이 하나님보다 자기가 의롭다 함이요
[3] 또 세 친구에게 노를 발함은 그들이 능히 대답지는 못하여도 욥을 정죄함이라
[4] 엘리후가 그들의 나이 자기보다 많으므로 욥에게 말하기를 참고 있다가
[5] 세 사람의 입에 대답이 없음을 보고 노를 발하니라
[6] 부스 사람 바라겔의 아들 엘리후가 발언하여 가로되 나는 연소하고 당신들은 연로하므로 참고 나의 의견을 감히 진술치 못하였노라
[7] 내가 말하기를 날이 많은 자가 말을 낼 것이요 해가 오랜 자가 지혜를 가르칠 것이라 하였으나
[8] 사람의 속에는 심령이 있고 전능자의 기운이 사람에게 총명을 주시나니
[9] 대인이라고 지혜로운 것이 아니요 노인이라고 공의를 깨닫는 것이 아니라
[10] 그러므로 내가 말하노니 내 말을 들으라 나도 내 의견을 보이리라
[11] 내가 당신들의 말을 기다렸고 당신들이 할 말을 합당하도록 하여보는 동안에 그 변론에 내 귀를 기울였더니
[12] 자세히 들은즉 당신들 가운데 욥을 꺾어 그 말을 대답하는 자가 없도다
[13] 당신들이 혹시라도 말하기를 우리가 지혜를 깨달았었구나 그를 이길 자는 하나님이시요 사람이 아니라 하지 말지니라
[14] 그가 내게 말을 내지 아니하였으니 나도 당신들의 말처럼 그에게 대답지 아니하리라
[15] 그들이 놀라서 다시 대답하지 못하니 할 말이 없음이로구나
[16] 그들이 말이 없이 가만히 서서 다시 대답지 아니한즉 내가 어찌 더 기다리랴
[17] 나도 내 본분대로 대답하고 나도 내 의향을 보이리니
[18] 내게 말이 가득하고 내 심령이 나를 강박함이니라
[19] 보라 내 가슴은 봉한 포도주 같고 새 가죽 부대가 터지게 됨 같구나
[20] 내가 말을 발하여야 시원할 것이라 내 입을 열어 대답하리라
[21] 나는 결코 사람의 낯을 보지 아니하며 사람에게 아첨하지 아니하나니
[22] 이는 아첨할 줄을 알지 못함이라 만일 그리하면 나를 지으신 자가 속히 나를 취하시리로다

　

Job.33

[1] "But now, hear my speech, O Job,
and listen to all my words.
[2] Behold, I open my mouth;
the tongue in my mouth speaks.
[3] My words declare the uprightness of my heart,
and what my lips know they speak sincerely.
[4] The spirit of God has made me,
and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
[5] Answer me, if you can;
set your words in order before me; take your stand.
[6] Behold, I am toward God as you are;
I too was formed from a piece of clay.
[7] Behold, no fear of me need terrify you;
my pressure will not be heavy upon you.
[8] "Surely, you have spoken in my hearing,
and I have heard the sound of your words.
[9] You say, `I am clean, without transgression;
I am pure, and there is no iniquity in me.
[10] Behold, he finds occasions against me,
he counts me as his enemy;
[11] he puts my feet in the stocks,
and watches all my paths.'
[12] "Behold, in this you are not right. I will answer you.
God is greater than man.
[13] Why do you contend against him,
saying, `He will answer none of my words'?
[14] For God speaks in one way,
and in two, though man does not perceive it.
[15] In a dream, in a vision of the night,
when deep sleep falls upon men,
while they slumber on their beds,
[16] then he opens the ears of men,
and terrifies them with warnings,
[17] that he may turn man aside from his deed,
and cut off pride from man;
[18] he keeps back his soul from the Pit,
his life from perishing by the sword.
[19] "Man is also chastened with pain upon his bed,
and with continual strife in his bones;
[20] so that his life loathes bread,
and his appetite dainty food.
[21] His flesh is so wasted away that it cannot be seen;
and his bones which were not seen stick out.
[22] His soul draws near the Pit,
and his life to those who bring death.
[23] If there be for him an angel,
a mediator, one of the thousand,
to declare to man what is right for him;
[24] and he is gracious to him, and says,
`Deliver him from going down into the Pit,
I have found a ransom;
[25] let his flesh become fresh with youth;
let him return to the days of his youthful vigor';
[26] then man prays to God, and he accepts him,
he comes into his presence with joy.
He recounts to men his salvation,
[27] and he sings before men, and says:
`I sinned and perverted what was right,
and it was not requited to me.
[28] He has redeemed my soul from going down into the Pit,
and my life shall see the light.'
[29] "Behold, God does all these things,
twice, three times, with a man,
[30] to bring back his soul from the Pit,
that he may see the light of life.
[31] Give heed, O Job, listen to me;
be silent, and I will speak.
[32] If you have anything to say, answer me;
speak, for I desire to justify you.
[33] If not, listen to me;
be silent, and I will teach you wisdom."

　

33 장

[1] 그런즉 욥이여 내 말을 들으며 나의 모든 말에 귀를 기울이기를 원하노라
[2] 내가 입을 여니 내 혀가 입에서 동하는구나
[3] 내 말이 내 마음의 정직함을 나타내고 내 입술이 아는 바를 진실히 말하리라
[4] 하나님의 신이 나를 지으셨고 전능자의 기운이 나를 살리시느니라
[5] 네가 할 수 있거든 일어서서 내게 대답하고 내 앞에 진술하라
[6] 나와 네가 하나님 앞에서 일반이니 나도 흙으로 지으심을 입었은즉
[7] 내 위엄으로는 너를 두렵게 하지 못하고 내 권세로는 너를 누르지 못하느니라
[8] 네가 실로 나의 듣는데 말하였고 나는 네 말소리를 들었느니라 이르기를
[9] 나는 깨끗하여 죄가 없고 허물이 없으며 불의도 없거늘
[10] 하나님이 나를 칠 틈을 찾으시며 나를 대적으로 여기사
[11] 내 발을 착고에 채우시고 나의 모든 길을 감시하신다 하였느니라
[12] 내가 네게 대답하리라 이 말에 네가 의롭지 못하니 하나님은 사람보다 크심이니라
[13] 하나님은 모든 행하시는 것을 스스로 진술치 아니하시나니 네가 하나님과 변쟁함은 어찜이뇨
[14] 사람은 무관히 여겨도 하나님은 한번 말씀하시고 다시 말씀하시되
[15] 사람이 침상에서 졸며 깊이 잠들 때에나 꿈에나 밤의 이상 중에
[16] 사람의 귀를 여시고 인치듯 교훈하시나니
[17] 이는 사람으로 그 꾀를 버리게 하려 하심이며 사람에게 교만을 막으려 하심이라
[18] 그는 사람의 혼으로 구덩이에 빠지지 않게 하시며 그 생명으로 칼에 멸망치 않게 하시느니라
[19] 혹시는 사람이 병상의 고통과 뼈가 늘 쑤심의 징계를 받나니
[20] 그의 마음은 식물을 싫어하고 그의 혼은 별미를 싫어하며
[21] 그의 살은 파리하여 보이지 아니하고 보이지 않던 뼈가 드러나서
[22] 그의 혼이 구덩이에,그의 생명이 멸하는 자에게 가까와지느니라
[23] 그럴 때에 만일 일천 천사 가운데 하나가 그 사람의 해석자로 함께 있어서 그 정당히 행할 것을 보일진대
[24] 하나님이 그 사람을 긍휼히 여기사 이르시기를 그를 건져서 구덩이에 내려가지 않게 하라 내가 대속물을 얻었다 하시리라
[25] 그런즉 그 살이 어린 아이보다 연하여져서 소년 때를 회복할 것이요
[26] 그는 하나님께 기도하므로 하나님이 은혜를 베푸사 그로 자기의 얼굴을 즐거이 보게 하시고 사람에게 그 의를 회복시키시느니라
[27] 그가 사람 앞에서 노래하여 이르기를 내가 전에 범죄하여 시비를 바꾸었으나 내게 무익하였었구나
[28] 하나님이 내 영혼을 건지사 구덩이에 내려가지 않게 하셨으니 내생명이 빛을 보겠구나 하리라
[29] 하나님이 사람에게 이 모든 일을 재삼 행하심은
[30] 그 영혼을 구덩이에서 끌어 돌이키고 생명의 빛으로 그에게 비취려 하심이니라
[31] 욥이여 귀를 기울여 내게 들으라 잠잠하라 내가 말하리라
[32] 만일 할 말이 있거든 대답하라 내가 너를 의롭게 하려 하노니 말하라
[33] 만일 없으면 내 말을 들으라 잠잠하라 내가 지혜로 너를 가르치리라

　

Job.34

[1] Then Eli'hu said:
[2] "Hear my words, you wise men,
and give ear to me, you who know;
[3] for the ear tests words
as the palate tastes food.
[4] Let us choose what is right;
let us determine among ourselves what is good.
[5] For Job has said, `I am innocent,
and God has taken away my right;
[6] in spite of my right I am counted a liar;
my wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.'
[7] What man is like Job,
who drinks up scoffing like water,
[8] who goes in company with evildoers
and walks with wicked men?
[9] For he has said, `It profits a man nothing
that he should take delight in God.'
[10] "Therefore, hear me, you men of understanding,
far be it from God that he should do wickedness,
and from the Almighty that he should do wrong.
[11] For according to the work of a man he will requite him,
and according to his ways he will make it befall him.
[12] Of a truth, God will not do wickedly,
and the Almighty will not pervert justice.
[13] Who gave him charge over the earth
and who laid on him the whole world?
[14] If he should take back his spirit to himself,
and gather to himself his breath,
[15] all flesh would perish together,
and man would return to dust.
[16] "If you have understanding, hear this;
listen to what I say.
[17] Shall one who hates justice govern?
Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty,
[18] who says to a king, `Worthless one,'
and to nobles, `Wicked man';
[19] who shows no partiality to princes,
nor regards the rich more than the poor,
for they are all the work of his hands?
[20] In a moment they die;
at midnight the people are shaken and pass away,
and the mighty are taken away by no human hand.
[21] "For his eyes are upon the ways of a man,
and he sees all his steps.
[22] There is no gloom or deep darkness
where evildoers may hide themselves.
[23] For he has not appointed a time for any man
to go before God in judgment.
[24] He shatters the mighty without investigation,
and sets others in their place.
[25] Thus, knowing their works,
he overturns them in the night, and they are crushed.
[26] He strikes them for their wickedness
in the sight of men,
[27] because they turned aside from following him,
and had no regard for any of his ways,
[28] so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to him,
and he heard the cry of the afflicted --
[29] When he is quiet, who can condemn?
When he hides his face, who can behold him,
whether it be a nation or a man? --
[30] that a godless man should not reign,
that he should not ensnare the people.
[31] "For has any one said to God,
`I have borne chastisement; I will not offend any more;
[32] teach me what I do not see;
if I have done iniquity, I will do it no more'?
[33] Will he then make requital to suit you,
because you reject it?
For you must choose, and not I;
therefore declare what you know.
[34] Men of understanding will say to me,
and the wise man who hears me will say:
[35] `Job speaks without knowledge,
his words are without insight.'
[36] Would that Job were tried to the end,
because he answers like wicked men.
[37] For he adds rebellion to his sin;
he claps his hands among us,
and multiplies his words against God."

　

34 장

[1] 엘리후가 말을 이어 가로되
[2] 지혜 있는 자들아 내 말을 들으며 지식 있는 자들아 내게 귀를 기울이라
[3] 입이 식물의 맛을 변별함 같이 귀가 말을 분별하나니
[4] 우리가 스스로 옳은 것은 택하고 무엇이 선한가 우리끼리 알아보자
[5] 욥이 말하기를 내가 의로우나 하나님이 내 의를 제하셨고
[6] 내가 정직하나 거짓말장이가 되었고 나는 허물이 없으나 내 상처가 낫지 못하게 되었노라 하니
[7] 어느 사람이 욥과 같으랴 욥이 훼방하기를 물마시듯 하며
[8] 악한 일을 하는 자들과 사귀며 악인과 함께 다니면서
[9] 이르기를 사람이 하나님을 기뻐하나 무익하다 하는구나
[10] 그러므로 너희 총명한 자들아 내 말을 들으라 하나님은 단정코 악을 행치 아니하시며 전능자는 단정코 불의를 행치 아니하시고
[11] 사람의 일을 따라 보응하사 각각 그 행위대로 얻게 하시나니
[12] 진실로 하나님은 악을 행치 아니하시며 전능자는 공의를 굽히지 아니하시느니라
[13] 누가 땅을 그에게 맡겼느냐 누가 온 세계를 정하였느냐
[14] 그가 만일 자기만 생각하시고 그 신과 기운을 거두실진대
[15] 모든 혈기 있는 자가 일체로 망하고 사람도 진토로 돌아가리라
[16] 만일 총명이 있거든 이것을 들으며 내 말소리에 귀를 기울이라
[17] 공의를 미워하는 자시면 어찌 치리하시겠느냐 의롭고 전능하신 자를 네가 정죄하겠느냐
[18] 그는 왕에게라도 비루하다 하시며 귀인들에게라도 악하다 하시며
[19] 왕족을 외모로 취치 아니하시며 부자를 가난한 자보다 더 생각하지 아니하시나니 이는 그들이 다 그의 손으로 지으신 바가 됨이니라
[20] 그들은 밤중 순식간에 죽나니 백성은 떨며 없어지고 세력있는 자도 사람의 손을 대지 않고 제함을 당하느니라
[21] 하나님은 사람의 길을 주목하시며 사람의 모든 걸음을 감찰하시나니
[22] 악을 행한 자는 숨을 만한 흑암이나 어두운 그늘이 없느니라
[23] 하나님은 사람을 심판하시기에 오래 생각하실 것이 없으시니
[24] 세력 있는 자를 조사할 것 없이 꺾으시고 다른 사람을 세워 그를 대신하게 하시느니라
[25] 이와 같이 그들의 행위를 아시고 그들을 밤 사이에 엎으신즉 멸망하나니
[26] 그들을 악한 자로 여겨 사람의 목전에서 치심은
[27] 그들이 그를 떠나고 그의 모든 길을 무관히 여김이라
[28] 그들이 이와 같이 하여 가난한 자의 부르짖음이 그에게 상달케 하며 환난 받는 자의 부르짖음이 그에게 들리게 하느니라
[29] 주께서 사람에게 평강을 주실 때에 누가 감히 잘못하신다 하겠느냐 주께서 자기 얼굴을 가리우실 때에 누가 감히 뵈올 수 있으랴 나라에게나 사람에게나 일반이시니
[30] 이는 사특한 자로 권세를 잡아 백성을 함해하지 못하게 하려 하심이니라
[31] 누가 하나님께 아뢰기를 내가 징계를 받았사오니 다시는 범죄치 아니하겠나이다
[32] 나의 깨닫지 못하는 것을 내게 가르치소서 내가 악을 행하였으면 다시는 아니하겠나이다 한 자가 있느냐
[33] 하나님이 네 뜻대로 갚으셔야 하겠다고 네가 그것을 싫어하느냐 그러면 네가 스스로 택할 것이요 내가 할 것이 아니니 너는 아는대로 말하라
[34] 총명한 자와 내 말을 듣는 모든 지혜 있는 자가 필연 내게 이르기를
[35] 욥이 무식하게 말하니 그 말이 지혜 없다 하리라
[36] 욥이 끝까지 시험받기를 내가 원하노니 이는 그 대답이 악인과 같음이라
[37] 그가 그 죄 위에 패역을 더하며 우리 중에서 손뼉을 치며 하나님을 거역하는 말을 많이 하는구나

　

Job.35

[1] And Eli'hu said:
[2] "Do you think this to be just?
Do you say, `It is my right before God,'
[3] that you ask, `What advantage have I?
How am I better off than if I had sinned?'
[4] I will answer you
and your friends with you.
[5] Look at the heavens, and see;
and behold the clouds, which are higher than you.
[6] If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against him?
And if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to him?
[7] If you are righteous, what do you give to him;
or what does he receive from your hand?
[8] Your wickedness concerns a man like yourself,
and your righteousness a son of man.
[9] "Because of the multitude of oppressions people cry out;
they call for help because of the arm of the mighty.
[10] But none says, `Where is God my Maker,
who gives songs in the night,
[11] who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth,
and makes us wiser than the birds of the air?'
[12] There they cry out, but he does not answer,
because of the pride of evil men.
[13] Surely God does not hear an empty cry,
nor does the Almighty regard it.
[14] How much less when you say that you do not see him,
that the case is before him, and you are waiting for him!
[15] And now, because his anger does not punish,
and he does not greatly heed transgression,
[16] Job opens his mouth in empty talk,
he multiplies words without knowledge."

　

35 장

[1] 엘리후가 말을 이어 가로되
[2] 네가 이것을 합리하게 여기느냐 네 생각에 네가 하나님보다 의롭다 하여
[3] 이르기를 유익이 무엇인고 범죄한 것보다 내게 이익이 무엇인고 하는구나
[4] 내가 너와 및 너와 함께 있는 네 동무들에게 대답하리라
[5] 너는 하늘을 우러러 보라 네 위의 높은 궁창을 바라보라
[6] 네가 범죄한들 하나님께 무슨 영향이 있겠으며 네 죄악이 관영한들 하나님께 무슨 관계가 있겠으며
[7] 네가 의로운들 하나님께 무엇을 드리겠으며 그가 네 손에서 무엇을 받으시겠느냐
[8] 네 악은 너와 같은 사람이나 해할 따름이요 네 의는 인생이나 유익하게 할 뿐이니라
[9] 사람은 학대가 많으므로 부르짖으며 세력 있는 자의 팔에 눌리므로 도움을 부르짖으나
[10] 나를 지으신 하나님 곧 사람으로 밤중에 노래하게 하시며 우리를 교육하시기를 땅의 짐승에게 하심보다 더하게 하시며 우리에게 지혜 주시기를 공중의 새에게 주심보다 더하시는 이가 어디 계신가 말하는 자가 한 사람도 없구나
[11] 상동
[12] 그들이 악인의 교만을 인하여 거기서 부르짖으나 응락하는 자가 없음은
[13] 헛된 부르짖음은 하나님이 결코 듣지 아니하시며 전능자가 돌아 보지 아니 하심이라
[14] 하물며 말하기를 하나님은 뵈올 수 없고 일의 시비는 그 앞에 있으니 나는 그를 기다릴 뿐이라 하는 너랴
[15] 하나님이 진노하심으로 벌을 주지 아니하셨고 횡포를 심히 살피지 아니하셨으므로
[16] 이제 너 욥이 헛되이 입을 열어 지식 없는 말을 많이 하는구나

　

Job.36

[1] And Eli'hu continued, and said:
[2] "Bear with me a little, and I will show you,
for I have yet something to say on God's behalf.
[3] I will fetch my knowledge from afar,
and ascribe righteousness to my Maker.
[4] For truly my words are not false;
one who is perfect in knowledge is with you.
[5] "Behold, God is mighty, and does not despise any;
he is mighty in strength of understanding.
[6] He does not keep the wicked alive,
but gives the afflicted their right.
[7] He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous,
but with kings upon the throne
he sets them for ever, and they are exalted.
[8] And if they are bound in fetters
and caught in the cords of affliction,
[9] then he declares to them their work
and their transgressions, that they are behaving arrogantly.
[10] He opens their ears to instruction,
and commands that they return from iniquity.
[11] If they hearken and serve him,
they complete their days in prosperity,
and their years in pleasantness.
[12] But if they do not hearken, they perish by the sword,
and die without knowledge.
[13] "The godless in heart cherish anger;
they do not cry for help when he binds them.
[14] They die in youth,
and their life ends in shame.
[15] He delivers the afflicted by their affliction,
and opens their ear by adversity.
[16] He also allured you out of distress
into a broad place where there was no cramping,
and what was set on your table was full of fatness.
[17] "But you are full of the judgment on the wicked;
judgment and justice seize you.
[18] Beware lest wrath entice you into scoffing;
and let not the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.
[19] Will your cry avail to keep you from distress,
or all the force of your strength?
[20] Do not long for the night,
when peoples are cut off in their place.
[21] Take heed, do not turn to iniquity,
for this you have chosen rather than affliction.
[22] Behold, God is exalted in his power;
who is a teacher like him?
[23] Who has prescribed for him his way,
or who can say, `Thou hast done wrong'?
[24] "Remember to extol his work,
of which men have sung.
[25] All men have looked on it;
man beholds it from afar.
[26] Behold, God is great, and we know him not;
the number of his years is unsearchable.
[27] For he draws up the drops of water,
he distils his mist in rain
[28] which the skies pour down,
and drop upon man abundantly.
[29] Can any one understand the spreading of the clouds,
the thunderings of his pavilion?
[30] Behold, he scatters his lightning about him,
and covers the roots of the sea.
[31] For by these he judges peoples;
he gives food in abundance.
[32] He covers his hands with the lightning,
and commands it to strike the mark.
[33] Its crashing declares concerning him,
who is jealous with anger against iniquity.

[1] 엘리후가 말을 이어 가로되
[2] 나를 잠간 용납하라 내가 네게 보이리니 이는 내가 하나님을 위하여 오히려 할 말이 있음이라
[3] 내가 먼 데서 지식을 취하고 나를 지으신 자에게 의를 돌려 보내리라
[4] 진실로 내 말이 거짓이 아니라 지식이 구비한 자가 너와 함께 있느니라
[5] 하나님은 전능하시나 아무도 멸시치 아니하시며 그 지능이 무궁하사
[6] 악인을 살려 두지 않으시며 고난 받는 자를 위하여 신원하시며
[7] 그 눈을 의인에게서 돌이키지 아니하시고 그를 왕과 함께 영원히 위에 앉히사 존귀하게 하시며
[8] 혹시 그들이 누설에 매이거나 환난의 줄에 얽혔으면
[9] 그들의 소행과 허물을 보이사 그 교만한 행위를 알게 하시고
[10] 그들의 귀를 열어 교훈을 듣게 하시며 명하여 죄악에서 돌아오게 하시나니
[11] 만일 그들이 청종하여 섬기면 형통히 날을 보내며 즐거이 해를 지낼 것이요
[12] 만일 그들이 청종치 아니하면 칼에 망하며 지식 없이 죽을 것이니라
[13] 마음이 사곡한 자들은 분노를 쌓으며 하나님께 속박을 받을지라도 도우심을 구하지 아니하나니
[14] 그들은 젊어서 죽으며 그 생명이 남창과 함께 망하려니와
[15] 하나님은 곤고한 자를 그 곤고할 즈음에 구원하시며 학대 당할 즈음에 그 귀를 여시나니
[16] 그러므로 하나님이 너를 곤고함에서 이끌어 내사 좁지 않고 넓은곳으로 옮기려 하셨은즉 무릇 네 상에 차린 것은 살진 것이 되었으리라
[17] 이제는 악인의 받을 벌이 네게 가득하였고 심판과 공의가 너를 잡았나니
[18] 너는 분격함을 인하여 징책을 대적하지 말라 대속함을 얻을 일이 큰즉 스스로 그릇되게 말지니라
[19] 너의 부르짖음이나 너의 세력이 어찌 능히 너의 곤고한 가운데서 너로 유익하게 하겠느냐
[20] 너는 밤 곧 인생이 자기 곳에서 제함을 받는 때를 사모하지 말것이니라
[21] 삼가 악으로 치우치지 말라 네가 환난보다 이것을 택하였느니라
[22] 하나님은 그 권능으로 큰 일을 행하시나니 누가 그 같이 교훈을 베풀겠느냐
[23] 누가 그를 위하여 그의 길을 정하였느냐 누가 말하기를 주께서 불의를 행하셨나이다 할 수 있으랴
[24] 너는 하나님의 하신 일 찬송하기를 잊지 말지니라 인생이 그 일을 노래하였느니라
[25] 그 일을 모든 사람이 우러러 보나니 먼데서도 보느니라
[26] 하나님은 크시니 우리가 그를 알 수 없고 그 년수를 계산할 수 없느니라
[27] 그가 물을 가늘게 이끌어 올리신즉 그것이 안개 되어 비를 이루고
[28] 그것이 공중에서 내려 사람 위에 쏟아지느니라
[29] 구름의 폐임과 그의 장막의 울리는 소리를 누가 능히 깨달으랴
[30] 그가 번개 빛으로 자기의 사면에 두르시며 바다 밑도 가리우시며
[31] 이런 것들로 만민을 징벌하시며 이런 것들�
