- If attacked we will defend ourselves, our family, and our neighbor if it is in our power to do
so.
- We do not, nor never will, participate in group violence for any reason.
- If called to serve our country in bearing of arms, we will refuse.
- We respect all those who choose to serve in the armed forces. We ask they respect our decision not to participate and forgive them when they do not
- We promote pacifism in our words and deeds.
- We welcome every person from every religion, and ethic background, to join us.
- We believe that the New Testament teachings of Jesus Christ prohibit us from participating in any war. We are to love our enemies and do good to those who persecute us.

When one becomes committed to God, through any religion, that person
should become improved in a substantial manner. Otherwise, why
change at all if there is no benefit. Also, when the individual
changes for the good, such change should also effect his/her
community for the good as well. Did you know that 31% of the world's
population is made up of professed Christians (Oxford University
Press, World Christian Encyclopedia, year 2000)? What would
happen if just 50% of the worlds Christians refused to bear arms?
Approximately 1 billion people would not be contributing to the
death and destruction associated with war. Our leaders would be
forced to the peace table, no longer having war as an option. |

In regards to hating our enemy, religious faith seems to have zero
effect. The fact that one claims to have contact with the God of
love seems to have absolutely no impact upon us, as our desire to
fight, wage war, and seek an eye for an eye still consumes every
fiber of our being. All the contemporary Christian needs is an
excuse for violence (e.g. a war declared to be "just" by
the State), and we express our discipleship with the sword. |

The most important question you must ask yourself, as regards your
relationship with God, is how has it changed you? You may say that
you smoke less, drink less, fight less, and attend Church more
often. You may even state that you are a better and healthier person
because of these changes. But, one does not have to believe in God
to make these changes. In fact, many unbelievers, smoke less, drink
less and fight less and gain the exact same benefits. What makes you
different? What single thing do you bring to your community, your
world, because of your faith in God?

This is the only thing that is capable of setting apart the believer
from the unbeliever, and it is this that is the greatest stumbling
block of the Christian and the New Testament Church. We learned
violence as a child and have refused to surrender it when we reached
adulthood because it has served us so well. As we entered into a new
relationship with God through Jesus Christ we offered all up to Him
except for our violent ways. We give to God our time and our
resources but we reserve the right to violence. When pushed, we push
back. We reserve the right to violence to preserve our lifestyle. We
reserve the right to violence to punish, as a warning to others. We
reserve the right to violence as an act of vengeance. We find
justification for violence through the Roman Catholic doctrine of
the "Just War", and through the Old Testament examples.
But, understand¡¦if the Christian continues to follow the
misunderstood Old Testament examples of war we will participate in
untold suffering. It is these examples that gave us one thousand
years of warfare during the Middle Ages under the direction of the
Church. Until the Christian and the Christian Church abandons
following the "Just War" theory humankind will perish.
There is no mistake, our violent tendencies and our lust to preserve
our way of life will destroy us.

The word "patience," (patientia), is a word that during
the early years of the Church meant "The
steadfast endurance to resist evil without doing violence to the
evil doer. The firm and enduring resistance to evil and violent
pressures of injustice and persecution."

Somehow the word patience has come to mean a "waiting without
complaint, even if that waiting involves discomfort."
But, patience means
enduring and resisting
evil without violence in return.
The modern Church has
abandoned the practice of patience in its quest to become acceptable
to the masses. The Church's primary goal has become to shape itself
into a form that will be embraced by its community. Therefore, it
must accept what the community accepts. At one time the Church
viewed itself as that which was to conform the society in which it
existed, to set the standards by which people may live a fruitful
life that would be pleasing to their creator. Yet, currently any
Church in any community is a microcosm of that community. One town
may have a number of Churches with little difference between any of
them. But, if but one of these Churches began to practice
"patientia" it would not only be set apart by its
counterparts but undoubtedly criticized by them as well. |

"Patience" is not waiting for a bus to arrive without
complaint...it is suffering because of your views, without
retaliation. Patience is what Jesus practiced when He
was being examined by His accusers, when He was led down Via
Dolerosa, when He was beaten, spat upon and mocked. He did not
return violence for violence, even though under today's idea of the
"Just War" He should have called ten
thousand angels, or led His followers in revolt. But, Jesus suffered
without vengeance. Can we not find our example in His acts? Who do
we find our example in, if not Christ? |

As a pacifist, we must understand that we will not prevail. Man will
kill and kill again using the most potent and horrible weapons at
his/her disposal. But the pacifist refuses to participate in this
madness. When we face Christ at the Judgment we will do so having
tried our best to live out the commands to love our enemy.

You begin by reading our creed and deciding if this is an embodiment
of your belief as you wish to express it. These are our basic
beliefs that we hold to represent the spirit of the Christian
pacifist. The word "creed" comes from the Latin
"Credo", which means "I believe". When one
adheres to a creed they are, in effect saying "this is
what I believe."
